When it comes to drones I have ALWAYS used Hobs or Hammerhead IIs. No matter what the dmg type was. Tbh unless you are min/maxing type it shouldn't matter all that much and will get the job done.

Always did the maze with a broadsword+logi+dps. Ive heard its tankable using a AF/Cepter by speed/sig tanking the torp so long as you have the DPS to take down the webbers 1st. I never tried in a ishtar but i don't think its possible solo.

I always thought that removing learning, giving base attributes to everyone, and reimbursing SP spend in learning was the best bet. Unless there is something Iam missing. Tbh the longer CCP waits on making a decision on this the bigger the issue ...

Stick to 1 character then until you either have enough isk to fund another account or to purchase a decently skilled alt. Splitting training on the same account isn't the best idea unless its for something basic like a cyno, market, ceo alt.
